Privacy Policy

Spanner M8 ("we", "us") runs an online job board for the Australian automotive trades. We take your privacy seriously and handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, and whether you're a job seeker or employer. If you sign up with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google. If you sign up with email, we store a securely hashed password (we never see or store it in plain text).
- Job seekers: phone number and location (if you add them), the CV you upload, and any message you send with an application.
- Employers: business name, contact email, logo, job ad content, and payment records. Card payments are handled by Stripe — we never see or store your card number.
- Technical data: cookies needed to keep you logged in, and basic server logs (IP address, browser type) used for security.
How we use it
- To run your account and let you log in.
- To send your application and CV to the employer you apply to — and only that employer.
- To email employers when someone applies, and to email job seekers a receipt.
- To process payments for job ads and keep tax records.
- To prevent fraud, spam and misuse of the site.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't send marketing emails unless you've opted in.
Who we share it with
When you apply for a job, the employer receives your name, contact details, message and CV. We also use trusted service providers to run the site:
- Supabase — database, login and file storage
- Vercel — website hosting
- Stripe — payment processing
- Resend — sending emails
- Google — if you choose to log in with Google
Some of these providers may store data outside Australia (for example in the United States or Singapore). We choose providers with strong security practices and contractual privacy protections. We'll also disclose information if required by law.
Storage and security
Data is encrypted in transit. CVs are kept in private storage and can only be downloaded through short-lived links by you and the employers you've applied to. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time from your Account page. This immediately deletes your profile, CVs, applications, job ads and logos. We keep invoices for paid job ads (business name, contact name, email and amount paid), because Australian tax law requires us to keep these records for five years. Employers who have already downloaded your CV are responsible for their own copy.
Your rights
You can view and update your details on your Account page. You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or delete your account yourself from the Account page, or contact us by emailing info@spannerm8.com.au.
Cookies
We only use cookies that are needed for the site to work, such as keeping you logged in. We don't use advertising cookies.
Complaints
If you have a privacy concern, email info@spannerm8.com.au and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We may update this policy. If we make significant changes we'll let you know by email or on the site.
